Disturbia

After his father’s death, Kale becomes sullen, withdrawn, and troubled — so much so that he finds himself under a court-ordered sentence of house arrest. His mother, Julie, works night and day to support herself and her son, only to be met with indifference and lethargy. The walls of his house begin to close in on Kale. He becomes a voyeur as his interests turn outside the windows of his suburban home towards those of his neighbors, one of which Kale begins to suspect is a serial killer. But, are his suspicions merely the product of cabin fever and his overactive imagination?

I didn’t know that this was a kind of remake of Hitchcock’s famous Rear Window. I was actually expecting this movie to be somewhat a hybrid of ‘I know what you did last summer’, kinda like a flick that’s tipping more on the slasher/mediocre acting side. The kind of film that you just watch because you’re bored and got nothing else to do. I wasn’t expecting white-knuckle tension and I didn’t plan on taking this movie seriously but I got more than I barqained for. The taut atmosphere got to me and I was surprised that I wasn’t disappointed by this film. I was actually blown away more by Shia’s performance in this movie than by his performance in Transformers. Great one-time watch for those loving thrills.
