Mamma Mia!

Mamma Mia!

Donna, an independent, single mother who owns a small hotel on an idyllic Greek island, is about to let go of Sophie, the spirited daughter she’s raised alone. For Sophie’s wedding, Donna has invited her two lifelong best girlfriends–practical and no-nonsense Rosie and wealthy, multi-divorcee Tonya–from her one-time backing band, Donna and the Dynamos. But Sophie has secretly invited three guests of her own. On a quest to find the identity of her father to walk her down the aisle, she brings back three men from Donna’s past to the Mediterranean paradise they visited 20 years earlier. Over 24 chaotic, magical hours, new love will bloom and old romances will be rekindled on this lush island full of possibilities.

I’ve been to see this film twice now and thought the whole thing was really good. It’s light hearted, and makes you want to join in with the singing at the top of your voice. I read what some critics have said about this film and so was surprised how wrong they were, but each to their own. My local cinema has been sold out so many times whilst this film has been running I had to pre book seats, not had to do that for years.

What a fantastic film. Saw it last night and am still singing the songs this morning. The acting was brilliant, and the script was both funny and moving. The cinema was packed, everyone clapped and sang at the end, it was wonderful. Going back to see it again next week. Stands alongside Dirty Dancing as one of the best feel good films.
