Drawing inspiration from films like Apocalypse Now and Platoon, this war movie send-up from director and star Ben Stiller follows a group of dimwitted actors forced to become real-life soldiers when they’re abandoned in the jungles of Southeast Asia. Stiller leads an all-star cast that includes Robert Downey Jr., Jack Black, Matthew McConaughey and Nick Nolte, with Tom Cruise in an unforgettable cameo as a rude, crude movie mogul.

One of the funnier movies of the year. It helps if you’ve seen some of the Vietnam films this parodies, and there’s more than a few dry spots, but the high points more than make up for it. Robert Downey Jr. is of course great, but the whole cast really stands out. You’ll be quoting this one for a while to come.
