The Wrestler

The Wrestler

Randy “The Ram” Robinson, a 1980s-era pro wrestler, has become a burnt-out shell of his former self. After he has a heart attack during a small-time match, a doctor tells him he could die if he fights again. In an effort to build a new life, Robinson takes a job at a deli, moves in with an aging stripper and tries to build a relationship with her son. But the prospect of a rematch with his old nemesis, the Ayatollah, proves too tempting to resist, even if it means risking his life.

As a child, I was a big fan of wrestling. I have continued to watch the WWE on and off through out the rest of my life. Any time a wrestling movie comes out I always watch it. I have found that “The Wrestler” is the most interesting and accurate of any of these movies. If you have ever watched/enjoyed wrestling, you need to see this movie. It allows you to view the business from a totally different viewpoint. I highly recommend it.

Usually the trailers are meant to draw you to the theater, but this one’s seemed to do the reverse. Despite of this, actually it was a really good movie. A simple story, simply told. I love the way Aronofsky shot the wrestler in the sense it very fluid with long takes. It was kind of a documentary, but more subjective. Mickey Rourke was great (I wouldn’t say Oscar great, but still great) and I want to know where Marissa Tomei has been all my life. I’ve been aware of her but where the hell was I? I wouldn’t say The Wrestler is worth ALL the hype but definitely worth watching since while Aronofsky’s direction may not be his usual one, but it still makes the movie exceed all expectations.

“The Wrestler” is a drama whose main character is retired from professional fighters work Randy Robinson, an undoubted star of the ring in the’80, but was forced to put an early end to his promising career because of a heart attack suffered during a game less important. Being warned by doctors that it is possible to lose if life remains true to the profession that we practiced, Randy Robinson painful decision to quit the sport and to engage in a delicatessen shop, establishing a relationship with an emotional dancers from a local strip bar named Cassidy and trying to reconcile with his alienated daughter Stephanie. But when it offers a chance to fight for the last time against his old adversary The Ayatollah, Randy’s Robinson is unable to resist temptation, even if it l confrontation could cost lives.

A treat for wrestling fans. The movie revolves around a wrestler who has to give up wrestling due to a heart attack, he tries to create a lif as a normal person but is finally drawn back to his passion of wrestling and the desire to defeat his enemy. In the meantime thier is also a lot of emotional drama between his girlfriend who is a stripper. The movie also focuses on what a dirty business the wrestling world actually is. This movie wouldn’t get my vote for an Oscar but if you are a wrestling fan then this is a must see movie.
